History

The history of the New Wave

The foundation

The competition was founded in 2002 by composers Igor Krutoy and Raymond Pauls. Their goal is to create a new international music competition, unlike the existing ones, capable of opening up the world to young artists and giving them a start on the big stage.

Geography

From 2002 to 2014, the New Wave was held in Jurmala (Latvia), becoming one of the symbols of the musical summer. Since 2015, the competition has moved to Russia, to the Sirius Olympic Park, one of the most modern concert spaces in the country.

Meaning and contribution

New Wave is not just a competition, but a large—scale international cultural event. More than 300 participants from 30 countries, millions of viewers on TV and online, big names and breakthroughs in the music industry.

Among the artists who started the journey with the "New Wave": Dima Bilan, Polina Gagarina, Sergey Lazarev, Nyusha, Intars Busulis, Irina Dubtsova, Timur Rodriguez, Anastasia Stotskaya and many others.

The New Wave Hall, located in Sirius (Olympic Park), has been home to the New Wave since 2015. The capacity is 2,800 spectators. The space is equipped with the most modern technical equipment.
